Many smokers will vow to give up the harmful habit and many will break that vow during the quite stressful aftermath of the Holiday rush. What, then, is the alternative? You may not be able to quit, but you can replace your combustible tobacco with smooth and sweet smelling electronic cigarettes, also commonly known as vaporizers.
Electronic smokeless cigarettes are growing in popularity all over the world; but why? And will they become a passing fad or are e- cigarettes here to stay? Can they replace analog, or tobacco, cigarettes for good? Pubmed sources say yes.
What is an electronic cigarette?
Electronic cigarettes consist of two or three main components, a battery, an atomizer, and a cartridge; in some cases the atomizer and cartridge can be combined to form one disposable piece. The battery is usually a rechargeable lithium ion unit that can vary in voltage. An atomizer is a heating element with a circuit attached to the battery. A cartridge is a small cylinder with either a wick or batting like material that can absorb nicotine liquid.
The device works by heating the nicotine liquid absorbed into the cartridge. The liquid is turned to vapor and inhaled like smoke. The big difference is that the vapor is not actually smoked, contains no carcinogens, and still delivers a measured dose of nicotine to fulfill that annoying craving.
Can this replace a regular tobacco cigarette?
In a study published in the Pubmed medical journal users of the electronic cigarette agreed that electronic cigarettes, or vaporizers, alleviated the need for the harmful cigarettes. The regular doses of nicotine that smokers crave were completely fulfilled by vaporized nicotine liquid deliveries to their lungs. The physical need to bring a cigarette to their lips was also alleviated by these, often cigarette resembling, devices. The only thing missing from the experience was the disgusting smoky smell, yellowed fingernails and teeth, and hacking cough in the morning.
Aren’t electronic cigarettes just as bad and addictive?
While nicotine remains one of the most addictive and dangerous neurotoxins known to man, the effects of the drug in measured doses is similar to that of the caffeine that we drink in our coffee every day. However, the mode of consumption is rather different from that of caffeine and, in fact, makes the greatest difference from tobacco cigarettes. Nicotine inhaled without smoke or burning has been declared up to 1000 times safer than the carcinogen filled smoke from analogs.
