Breaking up a habit is never easy. When it comes to quitting smoking it may seem a herculean task which you have to accomplish all alone. Even though you long to quit smoking you may postpone it indefinitely because it is never easy to break a habit of this nature. From my personal experience I know how difficult it is because two of my brothers who had got into the habit of smoking took great pains to quit and finally they did it with the help and support of the other siblings. I am happy to state that to-date (20 years later) they remain non smokers and I personally feel it is a great achievement for the whole family as we are a very close knit family.
Some people respond to more traditional methods. Other people respond to less conventional methods. I myself managed to quit smoking after trying quite a few different methods. I tried several of the more traditional methods to stop smoking and I have to admit I struggled to quit and was frustrated to the point that I almost resigned to the fact that I would be a smoker forever. In the end I found success with something a little less traditional.
We all know about the more traditional methods to stop smoking; the patch, nicotine gum or pills, or going cold turkey. A lot of people have found success with these methods. However many smokers have tried them and either did not tolerate them well, did not have the money to invest (in the case of the Patch and Nicotine gum and pills), or they simply did not work. These smokers can and have found success with less traditional methods such as NLP.
NLP is one of the newest and most exciting ways to quit smoking. It stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming but don’t let the fancy name scare you. It is a form of psychotherapy that has been around for decades but only recently applied to help people quit smoking with incredibly great results.
Quitting smoking is definitely possible if you have control over your mind, your will power to stand by your decision until your target is achieved and the drive and determination of your own personality

If you are attempting to throw in the towel smoking then possibly a single of the good reasons why you might be carrying out it’s mainly because you know the damage that using tobacco cigarettes can do to your health. Immediately after you quit smoking cigarettes your body and wellbeing will benefit from it.
I know I unsuccessfully tried to quit quite a handful of times earlier than I was in a position to quit smoking for good!
Here are 7 good reasons why persons either won’t quit cigarettes, or why they were unsuccessful in remaining a nonsmoker;
There are quite a few means that you can tactic the method of giving up cigarettes for good. A typical but drastic a single is to take the cold turkey approach. This strategy is rather drastic as it means which you cease cigarette smoking immediately and in no way touch another one particular again. This technique does not suit everybody and it demands a particular form of temperament to deal with the withdrawal symptoms.
1) Afraid of dealing with the withdrawal symptoms: Once people have stopped smoking, the results that will soon follow is often distinctive and different for everyone. Some folks is going to be come irritable, get easily agitated, encounter headaches or perhaps hand shaking. The prospect of having to deal with these possible results can discontinue folks from ever even seeking to quit and in the event you have experimented with to quit cigarettes before, perhaps you’ve got experienced this before.
2) Afraid to place on any extra weight; Cigarettes have been shown to suppress appetite. So, from time to time when individuals quit, they are going to tend to eat a bit bit a lot more than they generally would. This can be a quite regular fear for persons when they are looking to stop with conventional methods of gum, patches, medication or inhalers.
Will power could be a great psychological tool, but you’ve to bear in mind to use it, and which will be hard sometimes. Some individuals just wish to stay clear of that mentally and physically draining process of feeling like they continually should ‘fight urges’. Some people will placed up a great ‘fight’ for as long as they can, but the battles can generally simply wear individuals down until finally it appears less difficult to just give in than continue the battle.
The other approach is the gradual cessation approach which involves smoking fewer cigarettes each day until finally you reach the point where you no longer smoke a cigarette. In this way you’re slowly weaning your self off the dependency of nicotine. However, not everyone who has tried to give up smoking has found these two approaches productive at helping them kick the habit. They have discovered success in substitute strategies which are much less well-known strategies to quit smoking.
Here are a handful of alternative ways to aid you turn into an ex- smoker.

I have been smoke free for several years now but when I was still a smoker, trying desperately to quit I did a lot of research on different stop smoking methods. In the end I found a method that worked for me but the truth is that what works for one person does not work for everyone.
Another way of quitting smoking is to seriously take note of the consequences both in the short & long term such as:
· how it would harm vital organs of your system
· the high percentage of lung cancer deaths caused by cigarette smoking
· other diseases such as stroke, pregnancy complications etc.,
· how it affects your teeth & breath
· how it affects other people around you (passive smoking)
Nicotine replacements
The nicotine replacement therapy is currently available in three forms;
Nicotine transdermal systems or patches, nicotine polacrilex or gum and nicotine lozenges. Nicotine replacements eliminates the habit of smoking not the addiction to nicotine, however it suppresses the withdrawal that can trigger more smoking.
Furthermore nicotine replacements have many side effects and should therefore be consulted with a doctor
